Gingerbread Cookies

Gingerbread Cookies

This recipe is another clipping my Mother cut out and saved from several years ago. My Mom's gingerbread cookies tasted so fabulous! You will love this recipe!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups dark molasses
  • 2/3 cup cold water
  • 7 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Creamy Frosting

Creamy Frosting

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 5 tbsp Half and Half, or Whole Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • Food Coloring
  • Mix All Ingredients until Smooth.

Instructions
 

  • Mix brown sugar, shortening, molasses and water. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover, refrigerate until firm.
  • Lightly grease cookie sheet. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick on floured surface. Cut with gingerbread cookie cutter. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350° 10 to 12 minutes or until almost no indentation remains when touched in center.
  • Cool completely.
  • Prepare Creamy Frosting, spread on cookies.
